I've noticed on the Zazzle Marketplace that many of the same designs are repeated over and over as you browse through pages but are on different products. For instance, if you search for "trololo" on the marketplace, you will find several products available for the I Heart Trololo design by antisana.

When I first started working with Zazzle, I was so thankful for the ability to simply add my design and allow my customer to choose which product to apply it to. Having cut my teeth on sites such as Cafepress, where you have to apply your designs on products or sets of products and then edit each one to finalize them, this was something that I just fell in love with. (Sniff, teary eyed as zazzlelove fills my old heart with light and happiness.)

As I browse the MP though, I can't help but wonder if anitisana doesn't have it right. Maybe I should add my design to a number of different products so that I can have numerous instances of it show on the MP. Currently my designs on the MP only show once, as I've only applied them to one product, (heh, fat lazy-boy way as it is, LOL).

So, what do you guys think? Is it better to have multiple listings of the same design or simply one listing per design?

Please forgive the long post. Heh, I get wordy when in the throws of zazzlelove.Love

I personally would prefer one/two instances per product type from a customer point of view - so I wouldn't have to see pages & pages of the same design on every one of the 60+ t-shirt styles. As an SK, to try and compete with those who do add to all 60+ t-shirt styles, I normally add mine to 2 or 3 styles of t-shirt, sometimes slightly more if I have variations on the text or background image.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, Art. Like with anything in life there are sell offs to either way of doing things.

Benefits to having multiple products per design:

• More instances of the design in the marketplace so that my one design isn't drowned out by the numerous listings of other shop owners.

• Different keyword combinations used for different products per design so that more may be found on the search engines.

• I'm not sure if my customers understand the zazzle interface enough to realize that they can apply the design to any number of products. It seems that I'm only selling the products that I apply my design to without customers selecting different products for that design.

Benefits to having one product per design:

• Feels less like I'm cluttering the Zazzle MP giving site visitors the ability to browse lots of different designs rather than lots of products of the same design. However, this may be hurting my sales and exposure and heh...cash is king!

• Sooo much easier and less time consuming per design. ( I would much rather work on new designs than adding multiple pages of products per design )

The customers cannot pick what product to put the design on. If you add the design to a shirt, they can only pick which shirt they want. They can't put the design on a mug, or a button, or anything else. If you don't put the design on a button, they can't buy a button with that design.
